Erie & Sean’s Belize Wedding

August 1, 2009: Met in San Pedro, Belize

August 1, 2011: Married in San Pedro, Belize

Erie and Sean met in San Pedro at this exact location on August 1, 2009 while they were on a group trip to Belize.  On August 1, 2011 they married at the same house they stayed in the first time they visited the island.  Belize will always hold a very special place in both of their hearts.  There’s even more excitement to their wedding story so please read on…

The Peacock Feather Wedding Theme

The peacock feathers were such a beautiful and fun theme for Erie and Sean’s island wedding.  The bamboo arch accented with peacock feather and strands of white orchids looked so elegant on the beach.  The colors were such a striking mix, inspired by nature.  It is said that Peacock feathers symbolize marriage and some cultures believe peacock feathers represent good luck!

Peacock feathers accented just about everything.  A gorgeous peacock feather tucked in the bride’s hair, peacock feathers tucked into the bride’s shoes, and there were even peacock feathers mixed throughout the bride’s gorgeous bouquet of white tropical flowers!  There were even peacock features in the centerpieces and table napkings.

“The Dress Story” (You’ve got to read this!)

How beautiful is Erie’s dress?  I admit, I’ve looked at this picture many times admiring the bride’s beauty and magnificent dress!   Breathtaking.

Now onto the dress story…

I think people would find it crazy what I went through 2 weeks before my wedding :-)!!

Well, the place I bought the dress was going to have it steamed for me right before left; however they were scheduled to be closed on Tuesday. That meant I HAD to pick up my dress up Monday since our flight left at 9am Wednesday morning. My mother told me she would pick it up for me on Monday because I had to work and she did not. The shop called me at 4pm on Monday and asked if I still planned to pick up my dress. I was completely confused thinking that my mom should have already done this for me. I had no luck getting a hold of her so I called the shop back and asked them what time they closed, 6pm. I left my office soon after and got to the shop at 5:15 and the shop was closed! They had a sign on their door saying “sorry we missed you, we will return on Wednesday.” I went straight into panic mood and started crying. I spent the next 45 minutes calling, leaving messages, and banging on the door. Sean, got smart and found the place Facebook, he sent messages and posted comments for them to call me immediately. Sitting in front of the shop was driving me crazy so I decided to drive home since I lived only 10 minutes away. Just as I was about to pull in the driveway, they called me!! I raced back up there still in tears and got my dress. Their excuse…they simply forgot I was coming and closed the shop because the AC was not working. I had just spoken to them an hour before I got there! I didn’t care though, I just wanted my dress. I had already had my maid of honor drop out of the wedding a week before we were set to leave, I couldn’t handle anymore drama. Needless to say, I got sick the day after we got there, broke out into a rash from the cave tubing (I think), and broke my toe the day before the wedding. It was a rough couple of week, but the good news is the wedding turned out beautifully, I could walk in my shoes, and it didn’t rain!!  Erie

Cupid Called Belize: A Valentine’s Wedding in Paradise

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Valentine’s Day. The most romantic day of the year to say “I DO.”  Marriage is the union of two lives and two hearts forever in love.  What could be more romantic than getting married on Valentine’s Day on a tropical island?   Just ask Kim and Eloy.  They tied the knot in Ambergris Caye, Belize on Valentine’s day!  I call them true romantics.

A very special message from the groom right before the wedding

“I found happiness, laughter, strength, tears, faith in God, and true love! True love was something I could only dream of until I met you. I look forward to continuing our life together as one. Our connection all along was to be here today in beautiful Belize for our wedding day!” (words from Eloy’s vows)

Love was in the air.  Hearing Kim’s excitement in her voice early in the day gave me the chills.  I can’t express in words how happy and excited I was for Kim and Eloy.  I met Kim several years ago through my good friend Shannon who frequents Belize.  When Kim and Eloy contacted me to plan their big day with them I was flattered and thrilled that they chose Belize. When Kim was asked why she and Eloy decided to elope Kim told usWe decided to elope together because it seemed the least stressful.  We love to travel, and most of our very special and most meaningful moments together have been when we’ve traveled.  Plus we prefer to not have a whole lot of distractions, and it seemed ideal for romance for it to be just the two of us.”

“You are the yin to my yang. You are the calm to my storm. You’ve captured my heart and now my heart belongs to you.” Kim expresses her love in her personalized vows to Eloy

Congratulation Kim & Eloy!

The ceremony and wedding location at the incredibly beautiful Captain Morgan’s Retreat was beautiful.  Kim is a beautiful woman and truly a stunning bride in her gorgeous gown.  Her handsome groom also looked first class. After the ceremony Kim, Eloy, Ari, Dorian (witness #1), photographer Jose Luis and assistant celebrated with Valentines wedding cupcakes as a gift from I DO Belize Weddings, champagne from their friend Shannon,  followed by pictures and a romantic dinner for two.

Rain is unusual in February yet Kim and Eloy experienced a light mist of rain after their ceremony.  It was towards the end of taking pictures. Did you know that rain happens to be good luck on a wedding day?  Rain is said to be a symbol of children in the future just as rain promotes growth in the farmer’s fields.  According to an old wives’ tale, the knot in “tying the knot” becomes wet and is harder to break, thus making the marriage stronger.

Kim and Eloy’s special day was filled with romance and beauty.  I hope you enjoy the photographs as much as I do!  Thank you to Jose Luis Zapata Photography for capturing the newleywed’s beautiful memories.  You may read more about Kim & Eloy’s wedding in paradise featured in the Ambergris Today.  http://www.ambergristoday.com/content/stories/2011/february/16/saying-i-do-valentine%E2%80%99s-day

Congratulations and much love to Kim & Eloy Alderete!

Too much fun at a wedding? Is it possible?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Feeling extremely lively in nature and full of spirit today (sounds silly as that is my nature the majority of time) I felt featuring one of our recent weddings inspired with liveliness and full of charm, cheer and euphoria was fitting.

Is there such a thing as “Too much fun at a wedding?”

The answer is simple and easy:   No!   Who says you have to have a traditional wedding with all of the “serious stuff” and stress?  It’s your big day so go for everything you imagine!   The tropical music came to a stop when everyone was expecting the bride to appear.   Heads turned at what first seemed to be  inappropriate for a golf cart cruising the beach!   Surprise!  Instead of walking the bride down the aisle her father drove her on a golf cart… right up to her ceremony on the beach!   This was a first for us and the groom and guests got a kick out of it!   The party after the ceremony was out of this world!  Lisa and Jared along with 40 guests will always remember this wedding as the most incredible, upbeat, and vibrant wedding!  Even we at I DO Belize Weddings didn’t feel like we were at work for much of the evening!  We were thrilled and honored to be part of this very special couple’s celebration.

Any couple daydreaming of their joyful occasion on the beach will truly appreciate Lisa and Jared’s big day.  What an awesome wedding!!

If there was such a thing as too much fun at a wedding and an award given for it this couple just might win…

Congratulations to a very wonderful couple!

A Truly Tropical “I DO” Over the Ocean Blue

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Say “I DO” above the ocean overlooking the world’s second largest barrier reef!  This truly tropical ceremony included Caribbean guitarists walking the bride down her wedding aisle pier, saying “I DO” under the pier palapa, and a refreshing “Belize Rum Punch” toast on the beach!   Congratulations Magdalene and Guiseppe!  We look forward to seeing you when you return to Belize!

Ceremonies on the pier are ideal for parties under 15.
